Guide
How to get a Phantom vanity address
Phantom can't pick your address: every account it makes comes from a random key. But Phantom imports any Solana private key, so a vanity address works in Phantom like any other account. Get an address that starts with your word, paste its key into Phantom, and it's yours in a minute.
A username isn't an address
Phantom usernames are @handles. Other Phantom users can send to @you instead of pasting your address. On chain, nothing changes: Solscan, pump.fun, other wallets and every transaction still show your random address. A vanity address is the address itself, so your word shows up everywhere your address does.
| Phantom username | Vanity address | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An @handle inside Phantom | Your wallet's actual address |
| Who sees it | Phantom users | Everyone: explorers, pump.fun, every wallet |
| Can it change? | Once every 14 days | Never. It is the address |
| Works in | Phantom | Every Solana app |
You don't have to choose. Keep your username, and add the vanity address as another account next to the ones you have.
Get your vanity address
Every Solana address comes from a random key, so getting one that starts with your word means generating keys until one matches. We call it grinding. There are two ways to do it.
- Grind it yourself, free. Up to four letters, solana-keygen grind finishes in seconds on a laptop. Five takes about half an hour, six takes days, and seven takes months. It writes a
.jsonkeypair file, which you convert to a base58 key on your own computer before Phantom will take it. - Order it from us. Type your word on the vanity address page, see the price in SOL as you type, and pay in SOL. We grind on GPUs, and the quote shows how long your word takes before you pay. Your key is encrypted to a key your browser made, so only your browser can open it, and it checks that the key produces your address before showing it to you. Here's how grinding works.
Want it faster and cheaper? Let any capitalization match: each letter then costs about 29 times more instead of 58. Start with a capital A to H or a number from 2 to 9, the way most Solana addresses start.
What you get, and where each part goes
An order from us comes with three things. Only one of them goes into Phantom.
| Part | What it looks like | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your address | 43 or 44 characters, starting with your word | Share it. It's how people send you SOL and tokens. |
| Private key | 87 or 88 letters and numbers, from Copy key | Phantom's Import Private Key, and nowhere else. Anyone with it controls the wallet. |
| Keypair file | <your address>.json, 64 numbers in square brackets | The Solana CLI, and your offline backup. It holds the same key. |
During checkout you can also save a recovery file. It lets another browser open your order before you're done, so keep it private, and you won't need it once the key is in Phantom and backed up.
Phantom won't back this key up for you. An imported key doesn't sync to your other devices, and restoring Phantom from your recovery phrase won't bring it back. Save the private key or the .json file somewhere safe, like a password manager, before you click Done. We delete our encrypted copy 7 days after delivery.
Import it into Phantom
In the browser extension
- Click the Phantom icon, then your profile avatar in the top left.
- Click the + (Add Account), then Import Private Key.
- Name the account (your word works well), choose Solana as the network, and paste the private key.
- Click Import. Your vanity address is now an account in Phantom.
On your phone
- Open Phantom and tap your profile avatar in the top left.
- Go to Settings, then Manage Accounts, and tap + in the top right.
- Tap Import Private Key, choose Solana, and paste the private key.
- Tap Import.
New to Phantom?
Install Phantom, then choose I Already Have a Wallet in the extension, or More Options in the app, and then Import Private Key. Choose Solana, paste the key, and your vanity address becomes your first account. The extension then asks you to set a password.

If Phantom says "Incorrect format"
- Choose Solana as the network. A Solana key won't import as an Ethereum or Bitcoin account, and Phantom says the format is wrong.
- Paste the private key, not the address. The key is 87 or 88 characters long. The address is 43 or 44, and it starts with your word.
- Use the key from Copy key. The
.jsonfile holds the same key as a list of numbers, for the Solana CLI.
Using it day to day
- Switch accounts from the avatar menu. Your vanity address sits next to your other accounts, under the name you gave it.
- Move SOL, tokens or NFTs to it like to any address: send from your other account in Phantom to the address that starts with your word.
- On another device, import the key again. Phantom keeps imported keys on the device you imported them on.
- Never paste your key into a website, a form or a chat, whoever asks. We'll never ask for it, and Phantom support won't either. More on how we keep your key safe.
Questions
Can Phantom make a vanity address?
No. Phantom makes every new account from a random key, so you can't choose its address. Get a vanity address elsewhere, then import its private key into Phantom.
Is a Phantom username the same as a vanity address?
No. A username is an @handle other Phantom users can send to, and your address on chain stays the same. A vanity address is the address itself, so your word shows on explorers, on pump.fun and in every wallet.
Does a vanity address work like my other Phantom accounts?
Yes. It's a normal Solana account. It holds SOL, tokens and NFTs, and it connects to apps like any other account in Phantom.
Will my vanity address show up on my other devices?
Not by itself. Phantom keeps an imported key on the device you imported it on, and your Phantom recovery phrase won't bring it back. Import the key on each device, and keep your own copy somewhere safe.
How much does a Phantom vanity address cost?
Up to four letters, you can grind one yourself for free with solana-keygen grind. For longer words, we show the exact price in SOL as you type, and it's fixed when you order. Phantom charges nothing to import it.
Ready for yours? Type your word on the vanity address page and see the price before you connect anything.
